Vienna for free: One day 0 EUR
Vienna is not cheap! In this blog post you can find out how you can experience the city in one day for 0 EUR: From sightseeing to eating and drinking to cool events.
Drinking fountians
The city of Vienna has free drinking fountains where you can fill up your water bottle. You can find exactly where they are in the app of the City of Vienna as well as in the online map of the City of Vienna.
Free food
foodsharing.at
Foodsharing.at saves food before it spoils. Donated food can be found in so-called fair “Fairteiler”, which are fridges accessible to the public. The food in thes fridges can be taken free of charge and are thus saved from the garbage can. You can find a map with an overview of the fair dividers at www.foodsharing.at/karte.
And one more note: Please be fair and only take as much as you need yourself.
Restaurant Deewan
The next tip is the Pakistani restaurant Der Wiener Deewan. In theory, you could eat here for 0 EUR. But to be precise: the food is not free here, but you can pay as much as you feel is appropriate.
Adresse: Liechtensteinstraße 10, 1090 Wien
Getting around Vienna for free
walking
In the city center I would recommend to walk. The distances are usually not very long and you can feel the flair of the city.
City bikes
If your route is a little bit longer, then I have a tip for you: Register for the city bikes. This is a rental bike system where you ride for free during the first hour. You can repeat this as often as you like. If your trip always stays under an hour, you can cycle through Vienna for free. I have already taken a close look at how this works with the city bikes in the following video
Free sightseeing
Allow me, to do a little bit of self-promotion ;) On my YouTube channel I give tips on sights and walks. For example, I made a video showing which Sisi sights you can visit completely free of charge!
Free tour
If you prefer to do a sightseeing tour, you can book a free tour. There are several providers in Vienna. The tour itself does not cost anything, but you are expected to tip. Usually this is between 5 and 15 EUR.
Sightseeing on your own
Or you can explore the city on your own: and stroll through the beautiful city center. Something I would definitely recommend! And when you are out there, do not forget to visit the parks along the Ringstrasse such as Burggarten, Volksgarten or Stadtpark. They are beautiful and you can visit them completely free of charge.
This is where you can find the parks mentioned
Schönbrunn Palace and its huge park should also be on your list. You have to pay admission to the castle itself, but the park can be accessed free of charge.
Schönbrunn Palace: Schönbrunner Schloßstraße 47, 1130 Vienna
Free WLAN / Free WiFi
If you now want to share your best experiences but you used up your data volume on your mobile phone: don't panic! You can use free WiFi in Vienna! There are free hotspots all over the city. You can find where they are in the app of the city of Vienna and the map of the city of Vienna.
Culture for free
Free museums
You can always visit a number of smaller museums in Vienna for free. I would particularly like to highlight the district museum in the 1st district. It gives an overview over the history of the city starting with the Roman settlement of Vindobona.

Events
If you are interested in events, Vienna also has some free options to offer. Here are three of my personal favorites!
The Danube Island Festival: This is the largest music festival in the world with free admission and always takes place on the Danube Island in the warm season. Various stages are played over several days. -From rock to pop!
If you like it more classic, you should stop by the film festival on Rathausplatz. Operas and concerts are shown here in the evening. Here, too, entry is free.

And once a year the orchestra of the world-famous Philharmonic plays completely free of charge at the summer night concert in Schönbrunn Palace Park.
